Barriers and facilitators to implementing evidence-based guidelines in long-term care: a qualitative evidence synthesis

We brought together all the articles that described the barriers and facilitators to implementing evidence-based guidelines in long-term care. We then mapped the barriers and facilitators onto the Behaviour Change Wheel to make theory-informed recommendations for knowledge translation strategies. We found that future strategies should target physical and social opportunity and psychological capability, and include interventions like environmental restructuring, training, and education.

Evaluating the effect of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown on long-term care residents’ mental health: a data driven approach in New Brunswick

We analyzed data from a network of 7 long-term care homes in New Brunswick who were locked down during the first wave, but did not have any outbreaks of COVID-19. This network of homes meets regularly to discuss quality indicators in a community of practice model. They put strategies in place to mitigate the effects of lockdown on resident’s mental health. We found that in these homes the effect of lockdown was not significant on depression, delirium, and behavioural problems.

Development and validation of the Fracture Risk Scale Home Care (FRS-HC) that predicts one-year incident fracture: an electronic record-linked longitudinal cohort study

We developed the Fracture Risk Scale – Home Care (FRS-HC): an algorithm that predicts how likely a home care recipient is to experience a hip fracture in the next year. The FRS-HC is automatically generated from routine home care assessments (RAI-HC and interRAI-HC) and does not require bone mineral density testing.

Developing a fracture risk clinical assessment protocol for long-term care: a modified delphi consensus process

We developed a Fracture Risk Clinical Assessment Protocol (CAP) for long-term care. The CAP automatically provides fracture prevention recommendations based on a resident’s risk level using routinely collected data (RAI 2.0, interRAI LTCF).
